Marquis Brown
Co-Founder & CEO
Marquis Brown is Co-Founder and CEO of the National Center for Global Engagement (NC4GE). Marquis graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and studied abroad at University College, Oxford University. Upon graduation Marquis was a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton’s Global Operations Team where he focused on business development and strategy. Marquis was later appointed to serve as Assistant Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Baltimore, Maryland where he was responsible for the oversight of several city agencies, recommended and developed various policy initiatives, and managed a myriad of the Mayor’s priorities. In 2008, Marquis entered the world of social entrepreneurship when he founded the BrownBell Foundation. Not long after, Marquis decided to pursue a graduate degree in Public Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
Anthony Jewett
Co-Founder & Chairman
Anthony Jewett is Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Center for Global Engagement (NC4GE). Anthony founded the Bardoli Global Scholars Program in 2005 to provide global leadership and professional development opportunities for outstanding African American, Latino, and Native American youth through study abroad and service learning. From 2003-2005, Anthony served as a bilingual elementary school teacher in New York City with Teach for America. He has studied and worked abroad on a variety of assignments in South America, West Africa, China, and the Middle East. He is a 2006 Echoing Green Fellow and serves on the boards of the Collaborative for Diversity in Education Abroad and the editorial advisory board of International Educator magazine. Anthony earned a B.A. in International Studies from Morehouse College in 2003 where his passion for study abroad and community service earned him both the Freeman-Asia and Benjamin Gilman awards from the Institute of International Education. He was formerly a Fellow in community and family philanthropy at The Zeist Foundation in Atlanta. Anthony is currently a doctoral candidate in the new Doctor of Education Leadership Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Stacy Ruff
Director of Programs
Stacy Ruff serves as Director of Programs for the National Center for Global Engagement. Stacy brings nearly a decade of experience in cross-cultural education programming for urban youth in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Stacy received her B.A. from Wake Forest University where she had the fortunate experience of studying abroad in Benin, West Africa and throughout Europe. Upon graduating, Stacy served a two-year assignment as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua where she helped create and launch La Empresa Creativa, a nationally mandated youth entrepreneurship class for Nicaraguan high schools. After returning, Stacy worked with Clark Atlanta University where she developed study abroad programs for Atlanta Public Schools teachers who were recipients of the Fulbright-Hays Scholarship. She later worked to develop cultural awareness programs for the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and Metro Atlanta YouthBuild. As Director of Programs, Stacy combines her past international experiences with her passion for youth development and global education to further the goal of helping young people make the critical connection between their own communities and the rest of the world.
Alana Laudone
National Volunteer Coordinator
Alana Laudone is a Phi Beta Kappa 2006 graduate of Amherst College, majoring in Asian Languages and Civilizations, with an additional distinction in International Relations. Post-Amherst, she spent a year in Xinjiang, China on a Fulbright Scholarship researching ethnic issues from the focal point of educational opportunities. She followed her Fulbright grant with a year in Boston as a strategy consultant for Monitor Group working across multiple industries and geographic regions. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and conversational in Spanish, Alana is proud of and very grateful for the many opportunities she has had to travel, study, work, and volunteer abroad in Asia, Central America, Africa, and Europe.
